Geosciences Department Technician
Pay Status and Classification: Non-exempt, Regular full-time
Supervisor: Geosciences Chair
Position Purpose: Plays a crucial role in supporting students and faculty in the Geosciences department by assisting with field trips, laboratory exercises, instrument operation and maintenance, and classroom material preparation. This includes managing field equipment, coordinating off-campus activities, operating and maintaining instrumentation (mass spectrometers and chromatographs), managing supplies, and aiding in laboratory setup and sample preparation. Training available for all tasks. Department instrumentation includes a laser ablation inductively coupled mass spectrometer, ion chromatographs, a scanning electron microscope, and an isotope ratio mass spectrometer with peripherals. Department is busy, energetic, and friendly. Flexible hours possible.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Class Field and Lab Support: Coordinates with faculty to prepare/pack required field equipment and/or supplies for field excursions. Assists faculty with setup and breakdown of classroom laboratory specimens/equipment. Communicates with facilities for any repairs and maintenance that are required in geoscience labs or classrooms. Maintains, orders and upgrades field equipment as necessary. Drive field vehicle and assist with activities for selected student exercises.
- Geochemistry Instrumentation Operation and Maintenance: Assists with operating instrumentation (mass spectrometers, chromatographs, titrator, etc.). Prepares samples and standards analysis, assists faculty operating and maintaining instrumentation in both the stable isotope and ICP-MS geochemistry laboratories. Will be trained to operate the Stable Isotope Mass Spectrometer, ICP-MS, Ion Chromatographs, Metrohm auto-titrator, and Picarro CRDS. Maintains online chemical inventory along with safety data sheets and ensures proper use of inventory tracking systems. Performs routine maintenance of instruments (e.g. change oil, clean parts, change gas bottles, arrange for waste disposal). Troubleshoots and repairs instrumentation when possible and/or arrange consultations with appropriate personnel at the college or outside vendors. Maintain inventories of gasses/supplies for all teaching and research labs. Order gasses, and other supplies for the Geosciences Department and distribute to their destinations.
- Laboratory Work: Maintains Geosciences department shop, weather station, and tool area. Makes polished thin-sections and grain mounts for use in lab exercises and research projects. Repairs and maintains rock, mineral, and sediment sample processing equipment. Prepares specimens (mineral boxes, test kits, fossils) for class exercises.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Geosciences or related fields. Three years relevant experience, or Masters in Geosciences or related fields preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license to assist faculty with outdoor field exercises, including driving vans.
- Demonstrated understanding of geological principles.
- Excellent organizational and data management skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work in various field conditions and travel to remote locations.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures in geoscientific work.
- Experience with analytical instruments is highly desirable (but training can be provided).
- Skills in thin-section preparation is highly desirable (but training can be provided).

Compensation
The rate for this position is between $18.00 - $27.50 per hour. POSITION OVERVIEW
Northern Rivers is looking for a Maintenance Worker for its Schenectady location!
Our Maintenance Workers take pride in preventative maintenance, repairing of buildings, grounds and equipment. You would be working from 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, or as needed for snow removal.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for removal of snow on property.
- Perform tasks related to maintenance slips and project work, will be available for off hours work such as snow removal and other emergencies and are willing to work irregular hours as needed.
- Assume primary responsibility for the maintenance of a specific Agency building, or for the provision of a specific Department function (e.g. automotive or grounds).
- Perform repairs to plumbing, electric wiring, furniture, doors and windows, hardware, varied mechanical equipment, machinery, install shelves, new hardware and do skilled painting.
- Inspect property to ascertain safety and repair needs.
- Order repair parts.
- Perform specialized tasks related to one or more of the standard building trades, or perform automotive maintenance on Agency vehicles along with performing other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Building and Grounds.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- HS diploma preferred.
- Training certification in skilled trades desired.
- Must have a valid New York State driver’s license. One year's experience in one of the recognized skilled trades or two years of experience in either general buildingconstruction or automotive maintenance.
- Must be able to use the tools, equipment and materials of the building and grounds department, and to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.

Job Summary | The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE in Troy, NY, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or tenured Associate Professor position in Materials Science and Engineering with expertise and potential in the broad area of bulk/thin film metallic materials. Job Summary | The Sr. Business Manager reports to the Vice President of Information Services and Technology, and Chief Information Officer. Job Summary | The Network Security Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and oversight for complex, enterprise-wide services including the design, development and maintenance of campus security network infrastructure. The network security engineer is involved in all aspects of network security from detecting, tracking, identifying, collecting evidence & resolving break-ins, virus/worm infections, and campus hacking. Job Summary | The Director of Real Estate directs all activities associated with land management/leases; real estate revenue activities; building and land acquisition/sales; building and land appraisals; all Rensselaer property-related tax payments; Rensselaer tax exemption requirements; and special activities, that include leases and subleases of external facilities, fraternity/sorority land/building leases and finances; estate activities and community issues. The Director is responsible for leading real estate and economic development programs to attract diverse and innovative partners to engage on properties owned by the Institution both residential and commercial, inclusive of properties at Rensselaer Technology Park (RTP). This will comprise extensive collaboration with multiple portfolios including the Office of Strategic Alliances and Translation (OSAT), Provost, Student Life, OCEC, and Finance. The Director is responsible to develop programs to attract and maintain tenant occupants of RTP and create a self-funded real estate program. Programs that cultivate community and regional relationships and foster an exchange of ideas between community leaders, industry partners, researchers and students. Job Summary | The Economic and Industry Analyst will analyze and make recommendations for progress of the sustainable fashion industry, from farms and new materials to processing to brands and design, in New York State and in general (in the U.S. and worldwide). The Analyst will review and keep abreast of pertinent studies and research, and will seek information from industry data sources, carry out interviews and surveys, and analyze and interpret the information. Compensation
The annual salary range this position is $100,000 - $115,000. Job Summary | The Technology Licensing Analyst in the Office of Intellectual Property and Technology Licensing (IPTL) plays a crucial role in the transfer of cutting-edge intellectual property (IP) from Rensselaer to the marketplace. Collaborating closely with the IP Manager and Licensing Associate, the Technology Licensing Analyst will be responsible for licensing and marketing IP, engaging with key stakeholders including researchers and startups, and managing the IP portfolio, including iEdison compliance. |

Job Summary | The Director, Student Activities develops and directs comprehensive student involvement and activities programs that inspire school spirit, amplify the RPI student experience, and support the unique student-staff partnership that characterizes the operation of the Rensselaer Union. This includes employing best practices in facilitating student's personal and professional development, creating opportunities for developmental growth, strengthening student clubs (including student government and class councils), and contributing to student recruitment and retention in support of the enrollment, graduation, and student success of both undergraduate and graduate students. Advise student leaders and organization representatives in their development and execution of events, activities, and programs, including; financial planning, safety, and liability/risk compliance in collaboration with the office of risk management. |

Job Summary | The Procurement Agent is responsible for ensuring that supplier data is accurate, up to date, and in compliance with Institute policies. The Agent assists with evaluating and negotiating small dollar procurements, consistent with Rensselaer policies. Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Procurement, the Agent works closely with E-Business prioritizing master agreements, supplier enablement, and other contract opportunities. In collaboration with other areas in the Controller’s Office, facilitates encumbrance releases and develops training materials and programs focused on compliance with policies and procedures. |
